Hollywood movies are no exception, which has a great impact on population due to their popularity among Americans. The first reason to support my idea is that the Presidential Administration and the Pentagon strongly intensify their engagement with the bosses of the film industry and the largest U.S. producers, asking for their help in the propagation of American patriotism and mobilizing the whole nation to fight with Americas enemies. The examples of such cooperation were the movies such as Saving Private Ryan (brought $216 million), Pearl Harbor ($198 million), Black Hawk Down ($108 million), â€Å"We Were Soldiers with Mel Gibson ($79 million), All the Fears of the World ($ 97 million), etc. The second reason to support my opinion is the fact that in order to distract public attention from the sex scandal involving U.S. President Bill Clinton, the adviser for emergency situations, Conrad Breen, was urgently called and asked to take action. Breen, in turn, called a well-known Hollywood producer Stanley Motss. Together they made a film on a grand Hollywood scale. Stanley Motss could not miss this rare chance to satisfy his ambitions and the movie Wag the Dog ($64 million) came out. Therefore, from the examples above I conclude that any American film director or producer, if he really wants to make an entertaining and profitable film, is forced to ask the Pentagon or other serious authority for assistance. In exchange for their services, these authorities demand the right to make adjustments in the film production and even censorship of the script.

Abraham Lincoln Essay For Kids Of the many presidents who could be mindlessly passed off as heroes, there are a few truly heroic presidents. Among them, Abraham Lincoln stands tall. In 1861, when Lincoln was elected to office, the situations of the time called for a hero, and Lincoln stepped up. All throughout his childhood, Lincoln had to struggle to make a living and learn as well. His mother died when he was only ten years old. He lived as a farmer, working largely what would be considered minimum wage jobs today. All this while Lincoln struggled to gain knowledge, especially of law. He was always determined to accomplish his goals, and was willing to work as much as it might take to do so. After gaining presidency, Lincoln was faced with a dilemma. The secession of the South, though never officially realized by Lincoln, called for some sort of action. Throughout the Civil War, and even after, Lincoln was very kind and forgiving to southerners. He kept in mind the greater good and strived for the reunion of the nation, rather than becoming angry toward the South. As he stated in a speech at the Gettysburg military cemetery, Lincoln wanted a government of the people, by the people, for the people, (that) shall not perish from the earth. After the Civil War, Lincoln urged the South to put away their weapons, and rejoin the Union. One of Abraham Lincolns truly noble and well-known actions was the issuing of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. This would proclaim all the slaves in the United States free from slavery. Though this meant little to the South at the time, it means everything today. Any American resident, and hopefully anyone in the world can appreciate Lincolns Emancipation Proclamation. Without it, our country wouldnt demonstrate the same sense of freedom and equality it currently does. All people of minorities especially would regard Lincolns proclamation heroic. It freed them from possibly being born into slavery, and was the first national-scale step towards racial equality. I personally consider this act heroic. For one, I am not a racist, nor do I support or participate in racial discrimination. In addition, we would live in a completely different world than we live in now if slavery were still allowed. Lincoln committed much of his time into abolishing slavery, earning a great deal of respect from many. Abraham Lincoln did many other things which worked to define him as a hero. Not only did he go from a poor, hard-working child to president, but he did so with minimal assistance. He learned law and debate on his own, and had a great mind in both subjects. Prior to his election to presidency, he participated in a series of debates with Stephen Douglas, a well-known politician. While Lincoln was an unknown underdog, his ability to debate was apparent. He upstaged Douglas on various occasions, but more importantly established a name for himself. Lincoln is the definitive self-made man.

Delbert also cites that most of the juvenile offenders are part of sub culture that supports crime and which allures to them (85). As a consequence they find it hard to give up crime. The power of pee pressure and the dictates of gangs can undermine the efforts of juvenile who are trying to leave a life of crime. Additionally as the juvenile gets involved in crime they keep progressing from petty to serious crimes which lead to longer prison terms. With longer prison terms and few opportunities to reform the juvenile soon become adult offenders who are caught up in recidivism (84). The juvenile stage is there seen as very important in that if the offenders are reformed at this time period they will be assisted to avoid a life of crime later on in their lives as adults. One of the contributing factors to recidivism according to Delbert is the lack of social support for juvenile. This coupled with other factors make it hard for the juvenile to reform. Lack of support especially becomes an issue when the juvenile comes from an uneducated family that is poor. The family members and especially the parents may already be involved in crime or provide little economic support for the children leaving them to fend for themselves. In this manner poverty becomes a cause of increased cases of recidivism. Poorer families involved in crime in one way or another are also less likely to provide juvenile with the motivation to change life. The defeatist attitude of the parents and sense of hopelessness which permeates make the juvenile settle for a life of crime without feeling that they have other choice s. Parental influence is an important factor in crime and it is this factor that perhaps best illustrates the discrepancies between numbers of white and black juveniles in prison. Children coming from white families get more education and as a result do not find their way into prisons the way children from African American and Hispanic do. One way to give juvenile a chance at a better life and to get them to avoid recidivism is to get them better education, means of social control and social support so that they can give up a life of crime which will greatly enhance their opportunity for a good future (86). Uneducated adults also reveal higher chances of recidivism than their educated counterparts. Prisons can not fully deal with the issue of crime unless drug abuse and addiction are resolved. In a study of 105 drug addicts conducted by Johnson, et al., addicts often get involved in crime to make money for their drug cravings (186). Johnson, et al. also found that because the addict s had other needs as well they spent some of the money on food and buying items that they desired (190). Addiction was therefore taken as one of the reasons why people engage in crime and especially to explain cases of recidivism. If drug addicts do not receive treatment, despite their best efforts they will still resort to crimes in order to maintain their drug addiction. Drugs have also been attributed to broken families which can lead to juvenile crime. Addicted parent s do not attend to their children in a manner sufficient to give social controls, support so that it becomes easier for the youth in families with addiction to join crime. Drug addiction present cases of absent parents which encourages juvenile to join groups which could be gang related or antisocial. Drug addiction is therefore a legitimate force in causing crime and in encouraging recidivism. Until drug addiction is treated, many addicts will keep finding their way to prisons time and again. In the long run the t reatment has more positive results as it doe not only reduce crime but helps criminals to turn their lives around and become productive members of society. Conclusion While prisons are necessary in every society there is need to assess their roles and how well they are living up to what they are intended to. In America today thee is general consensus that prisons are not producing one of their roles which is reformation. This is in turn causing other problems including recidivism. It is important to find out ways in which the prison department of corrections can effectively help those who are sent to prison to leave a life of crime. In addition there is reason to find out why there are so many crimes in society today. With that understanding crime can be deal with in a preventative way. We have to find time for our family, work and time for fun. In the daily grind of the commute and the eight to five work day it is hard to find time to fit it all in. We conduced a survey to find out how parents communicate with there children and if their customs and traditions had anything to do with it. We interviewed thirty adults in our survey. The Breakdown of racial or ethnic groups is as follows nine Caucasian, nine Hispanic, ten African American, one Japanese, and one Korean. The Breakdown of gender was as follows thirteen Males, and seventeen Females. Those who utilize English or Native Tongue are twenty three English, one Spanish and six uses both English and Spanish. The average time spent with children was 7.6 hours a day. Those who use verbal and non-verbal communication where as follows eleven use Verbal communication only, none only use Non-Verbal communication and nineteen use both Verbal and non-verbal. Do their customs or traditions ever interfere with disciplining your children? Thirteen said yes and seventeen said no. The final thing we found was that if customs and traditions helped with raising your children overall? Twenty three said yes and only two said no. The groups had very different treads. When it came to language Caucasian and black people only use English but Spanish people use a mix between English and Spanish. When it came to disciplining children it was about even and when it came to customs and traditions helped with raising your children most people interviewed said that they did.
